Systemics #2: As we may think (or the next world library)

Kunsthal Aarhus, Denmark

20 September - 31 December 2013

"The Library is unlimited and cyclical. If an eternal traveler were to cross it in any direction, after centuries he would see that the same volumes were repeated in the same disorder (which, thus repeated, would be an order: the Order)."

                                                                  - Jorge Luis Borges, "The Library of Babel"

Following 'The 2013 Next Library' conference which took place in Aarhus, the exhibition explores issues around knowledge production, how information is generated, collected and stored, and understood. It takes Vannevar Bush's ideas (from his seminal essay "As We May Think" of 1948) as a reference point to imagine alternative scenarios for organizing and accessing knowledge autonomously.

Participants: Florian Hecker (DE/AU), Jakob Jakobsen (DK), Suzanne Treister (UK), (CH/AT), Linda Hilfling (DK).

Systemics #2: As we may think (or the next world library) is the second of four parts in the SYSTEMICS SERIES programme in Kunsthal Aarhus 2013-2014.

The programme refers the idea of SYSTEMICS - a concept borrowed from Austrian cybernetician Heinz von Foerster to describe all things as being connected as part of a wider complex system.
